The only reason I didn't get him to break the finger was purely practical. You don't want to cause a situation underground which leaves you with a casualty on your hands for real, and I know from having seen it done in those circumstances, that a dislocated finger is a) fucking painful and b) easy to put right, but boy, does it look busted !!
