Jenny stared around her at a scene of complete chaos.
Leaves and branches were strewn everywhere, roses had been hacked at haphazardly but the weeds still appeared to be triumphant.
“What do you call this?” she demanded.
“Gardening?” Nick offered, plonking himself down on an up-ended bucket.
“Making a bloody mess!” she countered, rolling up her sleeves and grabbing the secateurs.
“Never took you for the gardening sort,” he commented as she started pruning.
Jenny sighed. “You haven’t met my mother, have you? She’s been in love with Alan Titchmarsh for longer than I care to remember. Now start sweeping!”
