For me it happene at aged 14 after reading Frank Yerby's the Goat Song, and a friend and I slashed our entire LOTR-verse overnight! Naturally our AU was from the POV of the Bad Guys, so the results were pretty hilarious. We had Ugluk slashed with the Witch King of Angmar at one point.

A psychiatrist would no doubt have had a field day with the pair of us!!
