Ryan glanced around the dark interior of The Fighting Cock, relieved that Abby was still supervising the transfer of a tranquillised creature back to its own time.
The numerous beady-eyed, moth-eared trophies of past hunting activities staring miserably down at him would have gone down like a turd in a swimming pool with her.
As the equally grim-looking locals gave him some exceedingly bland looks, Ryan acquired the pub’s entire stock of pies, sandwiches and crisps.
As he left, the sharp eyes of a painted raptor stared malevolently down at him from the faded old inn sign above the door.
