“Mrs Newall says Kay’ll be fine until 6 o’clock, sir,” Becker said, heartily wishing Lester hadn’t overheard him on the phone to the nursery.
He always tried to display utter professionalism at work, even where his pups were concerned. But there were times when it was hard to keep up the mask.
“Becker, I’m a father, too, remember. I know it’s just a tummy upset, but she wants her dad.” His boss paused, then added, “Unless you’d rather sit through a staff meeting?”
“Well, if that’s the choice, sir…”
Lester smiled. “It is. And give her a cuddle from me.”
