Lester knew immediately that there was no talking Becker out of this.

“What will you do?”

Becker shrugged. “There’s plenty of work on the Circuit.”

“A mercenary?”

“Private military contractor.”

“Tow-may-toe, toe-mah-tow.”

“I’ll be able to save lives, not just throw them away.”

“You couldn’t have saved her. And your men knew the risks/”

“That makes it all right?”

“No, it doesn’t. It’s fucking shit. But no one ever said this job would be all unicorns and pixie dust.”

“I liked the unicorns.”

“So did Sarah.”

And they both smiled.
