It was cold enough to freeze the bollocks off the proverbial brass monkey.
Don’s breath misted white in the freezing air. On the far side of the valley, the subject paused briefly at the tree-line.
Edgerton’s finger tightened gently on the trigger.
Falling snow muffled the noise of the shot.
Moments later, the man crumpled to the ground, a red stain spreading obscenely across the once-pristine ground.
Eyes like two flat, dark pebbles stared up at Don and a shiver played up and down his spine.
Edgerton blinked and the human being was back. “He killed children, Eppes, remember that.”
