I iz now a Hound of Leisure!!!

After 26 years (all working for the same firm), I have today retired! I'll be doing consultancy for my firm for a while, but it's not office based, so as of now, I have escaped the Dog Pound and am running around in excitement flapping my ears and behaving badly already!!!

A humongous thanks to all my LJ friends who have given me so much support over my last couple of years at work, and who have stuck with me through some difficult times, and have never failed to cheer me up when I've been down in the dumps!

My last day was lovely, with loads of lovely leaving presents (I've never left anywhere before, so that was a new experience!), and I still have my official retirement party to come on Monday evening.

The way this weekend has been planned out, it looks like I don't have to cook again until Tuesday, as we're having a meal out with friends tonight, another one on Sunday, and we're at a friend's house for dinner tomorrow night. I think I could get used to this retirement lark!

I gave my mother a basset for her retirement. Might one arrive in your life?

My spouse claims that two dogs are enough. We are currently owned by a terrier-mongrel and a lurcher. There's a lovely bassett/beagle cross who our lurcher adores having a rough and tumble with. They have great fun.

LOL, I'm looking forward to trying! And hopefully we'll be able to sort out a date to look at the Piltdown Collection in the NHM with you and Lil that we were discussing a while ago.

Congrats! I'm envious. ;) I'm going to be properly starting in the workforce next year. It's going to be a long 40-odd years until I retire!

It took a long time, but I got here in the end. And much as I may have cursed being a lawyer at times over the years, I think if I had my time again, I wouldn't do things differently. Or at least not much. The thing I'm most proud of is still acting for the same client companies after 26 years and 11 years respectively. Not a bad record in a cut-throat business like mine.

I can confirm from a comment above that the sitting in cafes talking about gay porn DOES happen when you stop working - well, it does for me!

I recommend a spell when you don't do anything routine - don't worry about jobs that have needed doing - just enjoy the not having to go out to work thing for a bit. YAY!

That sounds good advice. I'm not intending to plan too much to start with and just let my life drift comfortably for a change.

One of my clients told me he'd known me longer than any of his wives and I'm the only woman in his life who's never caused him any trouble! I was highly amused by that.

I've worked with some fabulous people. My secretary has been with me for 20 years, and she's now going to looks after the guy who has taken over from me (he was my trainee solicitor 17 years ago!).
