A/N : Two linked drabbles.

He’d given up marking the bricks on his cell wall to record the passing of time.

He wasn’t sure how long ago that had been.

He’d ceased to commemorate his captor’s visits even longer ago.

One rape blurred into another after only a surprisingly short time.

He’d thought that maybe a tear in his abused flesh would lead to infection, which in turn would end his captivity, but his body had proved more resilient than he would have believed possible.

The gunfire, when it came, stirred long-buried emotions.

Bringing him freedom or death?

He wasn’t even sure he cared anymore.

The shots had been sudden and unexpected. He’d heard shouting, followed by cries of pain and then more shots.

The click of the key in the lock sounded unnaturally loud in the silence that had finally fallen.

The door opened and he stared in fear at the sight of a black-clad figure.

Blue eyes widened in shock, and Captain Ryan’s familiar voice yelled, “Jon! We’ve found him!”

He was escorted from the bunker into long-forgotten sunlight.

Freedom was now a reality, not a dream, but whether it was a reality he had the strength to face was another matter entirely.

That was wonderful bleak. The description of the mounting hopelessness was very vividly. And when the rescue finally comes Lester is eventually to far gone already to return to his old life.
