The barguest was the size of a small pony.
Its coat was as black as coal but dull and unkempt. Its eyes were equally dull and its horns looked like they’d been used for grubbing in the dirt.
Someone had been keeping it penned in.
“Poor old chap,” I murmured.
A low, rumbling growl issued from the barguest’s throat.
The policeman at my side went for his Taser.
“We won’t need that,” I told him sharply.
He looked sceptical but as long as he kept his penis-substitute to himself and let me do my job, we’d get on just fine.
