“I’ll be fine, don’t fuss,” Jess said, summoning the brightest smile she could muster. “It’s just a dodgy stomach. Tell Lester I’ll be back in tomorrow.”
Becker hovered protectively. “Is there anything else I can get you?”
“What part of don’t fuss didn’t you understand?” But she flashed him another smile to take the sting out of her words.
When Becker finally left her alone, Jess microwaved a heat pack and settled down with it on her stomach.
It was just easier to make an excuse. Becker would only blush furiously if she mentioned period pains.
Some things never changed.
