Sir James Lester claimed he was regretting not staying in management consultancy.

Claudia couldn’t say she blamed him.

She was certainly regretting not having followed the typical career path for someone with an upper second in law from a respectable Oxford college.

She didn’t imagine that the average solicitor at one of the city’s big five law firms had to deal with dinosaurs on a daily basis.

All they had to worry about was recording four times more billable hours than existed in an average day.

After a stint in the Home Office, that almost seemed like an attractive prospect.
