He stares down from his carven throne, his eyes watery and weak.
Doubt burrows into his heart, hollowing it out and leaving a nothing but a fragile husk in his chest.
Whispered words play on his darkest fears and haunt his every waking hour.
At night he sleeps all too little and when he does, he awakens cold, trembling and sick.
His memory fogs more each day and his resolve steadily weakens until he is wholly consumed by doubt, darkness and dread.
He wishes it would end so that he can lay aside his burdens and rest with his son.
