The light beckoned to her. Not the brittle beauty of an anomaly, but a soft glow, reminding her of candles and log fires in winter.

She was ready to give up now, to leave behind the fear and abandon the crushing sense of loss which had haunted her for weeks …

Nick …

Then a hand grasped hers firmly, and a voice she’d never thought to hear again in this life said, “I’m here ...”

A pair of warm blue eyes met hers, driving out the cold from her body and heart, forcing an evil dream to fade like mist in sunlight.
