“More wine, Conn?” Abby asked, filling his glass without waiting for an answer.
He nodded, trying to dredge up a smile from somewhere inside him that still remembered what it was like to be happy.
He failed, dismally.
Whoever it was who’d said it was better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all was talking crap, in Connor’s opinion.
He closed his eyes, squeezing back the tears.
Above him, the mistletoe swayed gently in an unseen breeze and Connor felt the brush of cold lips across his own, bringing back a warmth he’d almost forgotten.
