“Wonderful evening, Angela,” Lester murmured, trying hard not to glance at the clock.

“So pleased you could join us, James, darling,” she purred. “Let me introduce you to Celia Herrington, I’m sure you’ll have a lot in common.”

Half an hour later, Lester knew considerably more about show-jumping than he’d ever wanted to know in his life and he was actively considering using a cake-knife to commit ritual suicide.

The vibration of his phone provided a welcome distraction.
