Summary : Becker gets a shock after an anomaly alert
A/N : 1) Written for [livejournal.com profile] fififolle’s birthday! I hope you’ve had a lovely day! 2) This is the most I’ve written in one go all month! In fact I think this has just doubled my monthly total so far. 3) PUP!VERSE!

“No, you can’t keep it as a pet!” Becker said, staring down at the bundle of brown fluff that was currently curled up in an old basket in the corner of the kitchen.

Alex, Marcus and Kay trained three sets of big brown eyes on him, making him wish he’d never introduced them to the concept of a Paddington Bear Hard Stare. The little sods had watched the dvd over and over again and had obviously been practising.

“Don’t tell me there’s been another outbreak of fleas again at the nursery,” Ryan groaned as he walked into the kitchen, having just caught Becker’s dismayed exclamation.

“Worse!” Becker pointed at the pups and narrowed his eyes. “And you three can stop looking at me like that, right now.”

Kay promptly buried her face in Marcus’ fur and let out an extremely staged sniffle. Alex placed a paw on her shoulder and gently nuzzled her ear before turning an accusing stare on Becker.

“Ryan, tell them!”

Ryan walked over to the basket and stared down at its occupant.

A small, woffly black nose twitched and a pair of little round black eyes gave him what Becker could only describe as a beseeching look.

“Fucking hell.”

“Not in front of the kids,” Becker said half-heartedly, already knowing they were doomed, but trying to put off the inevitable for at least a semi-respectable length of time before succumbing to the humiliating capitulation known all too well to most parents.

“How did that get here?”

Becker stared guiltily at the rucksack on the kitchen table. “Looks like I picked up a stowaway.”

The shrew-like rodent that had scampered out of his rucksack and made itself at home in the basket stared up at him unblinkingly. Its whiskers started to quiver and Kay let out another well-time sob.

“I didn’t realise Mrs Newall’s been giving drama lessons,” Ryan remarked.

Kay peeked up at her parents, eyes bright with mischief. Just for effect, she sniffed loudly.

Alex held up a brotherly paw and wiped her nose, then cleaned it on Marcus’ back.

“Kids!” Becker said.

“Well, the anomaly has closed,” Ryan said slowly.

It was Becker’s turn to groan. “Ryan, Cutter’ll go ape-shit if he finds out.”

Ryan grinned. “Who’s going to tell him?”

All three puppies wagged their tails so hard their bottoms positively skidded across the lino.

“We could always say we got it from the pet shop,” Becker ventured.

The Zalamdbolestes in the basket looked up at him with an approving expression.

The puppies yipped happily and threw themselves at his legs.

Becker stared over their heads at Ryan. “If Cutter finds out, I’m blaming you. Agreed?”

Ryan grinned. “We’ll say it hitched a ride on the Hilux. Cutter did give you a lift home, remember?”

Becker gathered the wriggling pups up in his arms and shot Ryan a grateful glance. It looked like the kids had just gained a new friend.

And this time, at least it wasn’t a flea or a tick.

Think I've added them all to the list now though not sure where in the timeline they go - if I missed any then they weren't tagged.
