Well, 2015 was another shit sandwich of a year. But there were good parts too....

It started out a year ago today with my brother's funeral and ended with J, a close friend, clinging to life by a thread in a hospice thanks to ovarian cancer. The staff there clearly don't expect her to be with us tomorrow, but she's very good at defying expectations. We cancelled our usual Xmas trip to France to be on hand for her an A, her long-term partner, now husband. A large part of each day has been spent in the hospice with her, and she'll leave a hug gap in our lives when she does finally relinquish her hold on life. [Edited to add: J died this evening. A was with her. I'd spent the late afternoon and early evening with her. She finally slipped away peacefully.]

In other news, we've enjoyed several trips to France and in September has a very enjoyable return visit to Rome with some other friends.

On the writing front, the year hasn't been quite as terrible as I'd expected. Primeval still accounts for the bulk of my words, with 98,601 (a fall from 134,531 in 2014) on my beloved silly little dino show. A new love, The Musketeers accounted for 11,645 (a fall from 43,295 in 2014) and I really must post the 20k of long fic I've had finished for a while. My only growth area has been reviews, which took up 54,167 words (an increase from 4,886 in 2014). I also joined a small writing group and wrote around 700 words of original fic bringing my fic total to 110,946 (a decrease from 181,025). But all in all, that wasn't anywhere near as bad as I'd expected.

I'd like to think I can do more this coming year. There are still Primeval stories I'd like to tell, and some more for Musketeers, too. But my big resolution has to be to tidy up and post several finished fic, and to finish several others, as well as writing new stuff.

I'd like to thank all my friend on LJ for helping me through 2016. Your friendship means a lot to me, and I hope it can survive any changed fandom interests.

Wishing everyone all the very best for 2016!

That's lots of words - especially considering what an unbelievably fucking dreadful year you've had. *hugs*
