Title : If It Looks Like a Duck….
Author : fredbassett
Fandom : Primeval
Rating : 12
Characters : Lester, Cutter
Disclaimer : Not mine, no money made, don’t sue.
Spoilers : None
Summary : Lester and Cutter have a minor difference of opinion over the accuracy of a report.
A/N: This was written for
tarlanx’s fandom stocking last year. Posting now for completeness.
Lester picked up the report delicately between finger and thumb and waved it in front of Cutter’s nose. “You’re telling me you saw a unicorn.”
Greatly to Lester’s pleasure his statement precipitated a very Scottish sounding snort that came off rather like a strangled note on a bagpipe.
“No, I’m telling you we saw a previously unidentified species of horse.”
“Temple took a selfie with it. The creature looked like a unicorn to me.”
“Unicorns are something straight out of fairytales,” Cutter insisted. “We saw a horse with a horn in its forehead. Not the same thing at all.”
“To take your first point, werewolves are also straight out of fairytales, but I don’t see you doubting the existence of Captain Ryan, even though he could win rosettes at Crufts if he set his mind to it. And with regard to your second point, you admit that there was only one horn?” Lester was scenting victory now, determined to home in for the kill.
Cutter narrowed his eyes in irritation. “I’ll admit that there was only one horn.”
“So, by definition that makes it a unicorn.” Lester flourished the report in the air. “Just a few minor amendments needed, Professor. You know how much I value accuracy in these things.”
And just to reinforce the point, Lester smiled his most special smile.
The one where he allowed just a hint of fang to show.

Cutter was definitely fighting a rear-guard action, and sadly, losing.
The bit about Ryan winning rosettes at Crufts had me laughing out loud, and the last line was bloody brilliant.

Date: 2016-12-09 09:38 pm (UTC)Cutter couldn't win this one. Love that Ryan could win Crufts and Lester's hint of fang. Any more of this world?
