“Cold beer?” Lester asked.

Lyle dredged a smile up from somewhere. It failed to reach his eyes. “Please. The flyboy wankpuffins hadn’t stocked the fridge.”

That was Lyle’s way of imparting the information that he’d come to the London flat straight from the RAF base at Brize Norton rather than from Hereford.

Lyle looked knackered, deeply suntanned and had a short, scruffy beard.

They wouldn’t talk about where he’d been. Lester was used to secrets, but they did try to avoid lies, so ask no questions was the basic rule.

He was alive, which was all Lester needed to know.

Ooooh, great & satisfying fill for the prompt, in a drabble no less! What a difficult wall to have in a relationship, especially when one knows enough to realistically worry about every unknown....
