He dogs her footsteps, his eyes hot and greedy, his hands cold and damp.
She hates the light touches carefully contrived to seem accidental
She knows they are not.
He does not care that she knows. He knows he is indispensable to the king.
With Théodred dead and Éomer in disgrace, there is no one to stand between her and the vile attention of a man she loathes.
She dreams of parting his head from his shoulders with one swing of her sword.
But if wishes were horses, beggars would ride.
