2024 was another difficult year, which sadly seems to have been the norm recently. The early part of the year marked a fairly steep decline in the health of my friend T, and several very difficult months culminated in his death at the beginning of June. As his attorney, I was faced with a lot of difficult decisions about his care sometimes and during that period saw some of the best and the worst that our NHS has to offer. I was grateful throughout for the help and support of ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
goldarrow who shared much of his care with me. I was with T when he died and the end, at least, was peaceful and pain free. As his executor, I'm still up to my eyes in stuff, including clearing the house and its sale.
My own health has been mostly stable, but arthritis in my knees is a continuing problem, despite a lot of (contuining) physio. I'm persevering with all the exercises and thought I was starting to see an improvement, then I somehow managed to put my back out a week ago, and that's dire at the moment, so the world is continuing to refuse me an easy time on the health front. BUt on the upside, I made it into 2025 alive, so at least I managed to jump that low bar I set for myself at the beginning of the year!
On the writing front, to my amazement, I finished the uear 5,001 words ahead of my total for 2023! I wrote in three fandoms: Primeval = 13,600, Tolkien = 12,495, Alex Rider = 5,200 to give a grand total of 31,295.
I'm amazed I managed to beat 2003, but I think a lot of that was due to the two secret santas I did, along with the Tolkien advent calender. They were all huge fun and I was pleased with all of them.
I'd like to continue with fandom activities this year and get back to being a more regular particpant in my first and longest running fandom, Primeval, and I do still have a long fic that needs finishing, so maybe that can be my goal for the first part of the year. But again, I'm setting a low bar for the year. I'd just like to get to the end of it alive!
