“It’s the wrong way round,” Abby said quietly.

Connor and several soldiers all looked faintly queasy and took a step back.

Abby ran her hands gently over the creature’s furry and extremely distended stomach. “I’m going to have to try to turn the baby or we’re going to lose both of them.”

Lester rolled his eyes. “Wimps, the lot of you!” he declared, stripping off his jacket and rolling up the sleeves of his pristine white shirt.

In the face of universal approval, he carefully omitted to mention the time he’d spent on his uncle’s farm helping with the lambing.
