Helen tossed a sheaf of lecture notes onto the other papers strewn across her desk.

The entire third year seemed to have mislaid their brains that morning.

And Nick had quite clearly forgotten her birthday again. Not that she would give him the satisfaction of letting him know she cared.

A small slab of sandy-coloured rock nestling inside some of tissue paper on her desk caught her attention.

Five delicate petals surrounded a darker central circle.

Porana oeningensis from the Miocene.

The rare fossil flower brought a smile to her face, wiping away the memory of the previous night’s row.

Sweet pre-Primeval scene, before everything turned dark.

An interesting moment. It's something you don't really get much of a sense of from the show. Clearly there was something between them, then there wasn't, but there's no real indication of what or why... I like to think that they were happy together once though, like this, and that Nick wasn't just completely deluded!

Wonderful. Despite everything, it's nice to think they were happy once.

Oh that's so nice. I can see Cutter doing the romantic gestures (when he remembered).

Awwww, that's rather nice - it is nice to see those moments in which it's obvious that Nick and Helen did love each other once upon a time...

the way to a man's heart is through his stomach; the way to Helen's heart is through her brain.

nice use of fossil floral flora.

ps: though I'm wondering where Nick got it.

That was a beautiful gift, they almost looked like a happy couple (except for this part: "Not that she would give him the satisfaction of letting him know she cared"... Someone was already fed up).

Lovely, and a type of flower Helen would definitely appreciate more than the real thing.

Yes, there was some softness to Helen at some point in time. Nice way to take a quick peak at that side of her character.

That's a wonderful gift from Nick. Better than a dozen roses which would wither in a few days.

Very sweet, with undercurrents of a strained relationship. Great drabble.

////The entire third year seemed to have mislaid their brains that morning.////

That could relate to the amount of Cleavage of Doom that was on display... *G*

I'd love a fossil flower too! That's a great gift from Nick!
