Ryan was at the bar, waiting for the last of seven pints to be poured.

It was Friday night in Hereford and, for once, it looked like he wouldn’t end up having to break up a fight. For some unaccountable reason, the lads were on their best behaviour for once.

Stephen rested his hand on Ryan’s shoulder. “Need a hand with those?”

Ryan slid his arm around his lover’s waist and pulled Stephen into open-mouthed kiss.

A kiss that only ten years ago would have endangered his career.

At least in some ways the world had gone forwards not backwards.
