A/N : I have now completed another full year of prompts!

Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind?

The words drifted from the atrium, sung badly but with enthusiasm.

Stephen knew he should be there, with the colleagues who had once been his friends.

But there were only so many times he could say ‘I’m sorry’ without the words sounding empty and meaningless.

A noise in the doorway made him look up.

Nick held out his old battered hipflask and spoke the words as if he meant them: We’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet, for auld lang syne.

It was a start. It might even be enough.
