The once-russet hair was more grey than brown now.

Lester smiled ruefully. He was now more white than grey.

The huge creature walked stiff-legged, much like him. Lester leant on his silver-topped cane and opened the bag of apples.

The gentle trunk snaked out and tried to snaffle one straight out of the bag.

“You’re an impatient bugger,” he murmured, patting the mammoth’s shaggy hair.

Abby and Connor and the others still visited as well.

The remaining members of the ARC team had all stayed in contact with each other as the years passed.

And mammoths, like elephants, never forgot.
