Nick Cutter was used to his wife’s visits.

He could always tell when she’d been around. The place looked even more untidy than usual.

This time he found a scrawled note lying on his desk.

I told the fat guy you’d left the mince pies for me not him. Thanks for the new rucksack. Your present’s under the tree.

A large palm frond from the depths of the carboniferous rainforest stood propped up against the wall. Under it was a small black notebook. Filled with observations on the mating habits of various dinosaurs.

Nick grinned. She’d never been subtle, either.

I really like this. It's nice to think that they may not be totally antagonistic towards each other all the time.

Or perhaps this is going to be the only way they can have a civil relationship any more - ships passing in the night and all that... :-)

Nope, Helen doesn't do subtle. Nice drabble, those two are interesting to play with, and it's nice to see them in a moment that isn't about a life-or-death situation, or about their relationship angst.

BTW:

*points wildly* You wrote het! *more startled pointing*

Actually sweetie, you wrote gen. It's not so bad. ;)

And I loved this. But I bet she went through his underwear drawer.

well, I think its gen until we learn who Helen wasn't being subtle about...was she making a comment about Nick's relationship with Claudia (het), with Stephen (slash), or with Helen herself (explosive het) ?

here's a question - what did Santa use before reindeer evolved?

yeah, I fainted too...probably the reason I wasn't first to reply to the drabble. ;D

tis good het. as good as her slash fics.
(ego-stroking leads to more of both, right?)

*chuckles*

Helen Cutter, subtle?
(wonder if she learned that from her husband)

just when I think you're at the top of your game, perfect form...you produce a work that's even better!

and yay, Helen, for nabbing the mince pies! you deserve them, girl!
(see, Nick, if you'd gone with cookies, this wouldn't have happened) ;)

I also kind of like the idea of a not completely spiteful hateful relationship between them too. And you made that relationship work beautifully in character. Hurrah!

Also I agree you wrote gen, not het (though you have written het before, the scary Ryan/Helen piece you did was very het!) You should totally make a list of 'Things To Write...' you could have little sub-headings for the extra wrong stuff!! My most interesting sub-headings get underlined in shiny red pen.... :D

yay!

*iz in love with this*

Great characterization of Helen, I think she'd be very happy if it had turned out like this. Brilliant!!

After re-watching 3x03 again and how Nick just had to go back into the ARC after the explosion to search for Helen I can totally believe that he would leave presents out for her - sweet fic!
