Lester stared at the mountain of paperwork on his desk.
He could swear it had managed to breed in the five minutes he’d been out of the room.
A pinging noise alerted him to the presence of yet another incoming email.
That would make approximately three hundred and fifty unanswered messages.
He glanced at the clock. If he stayed until midnight he might stand a chance of winning the current war of attrition being fought against Downing Street and its minions.
But he knew perfectly well that it would be a hollow victory.
His wife had already started divorce proceedings.
