Before leaving the ARC for the weekend, Lester made his way down to the menagerie.
The lights had been dimmed some while ago, but the mammoth, sensing his presence on the upper gallery, raised its trunk and snuffled for the apple it had come to expect.
In the corner, curled together in their straw bed, lay two sleeping diictodons, with Rex nestled between their warm bodies.
Lester smiled down at them.
He knew the conditions were far from ideal, but at least the creatures had each other.
All Lester had was hope.
And at times that was a cold bedfellow.
