Summary : Written for the Primeval100 challenge 368, It’s the End of the World as We Know It.

As far as the eye could see, towering volcanoes belched out ash and dark smoke, rivers of molten rock running down their slopes.

Entire mountain ranges were blowing their tops, blackening the sky. Plants and animals were choking in toxic gas and others were drowning in increasingly anoxic seas.

The sun, only dimly visible through a haze of dust particles, glowed an angry red.

Nearly everything that walked, crawled, flew and swum was dying. Soon there would be almost nothing left alive.

And if she didn’t find an open anomaly soon, Helen would be joining the ranks of the dead.

Oooooh, that was eerie!
I wonder how many times she was caught in situations like that.

And if she didn't find an open anomaly soon, Helen would be joining the ranks of the dead.
Great phrasing!

Oof, that was well done. Really atmospheric, and then suddenly Helen in trouble - and her the one who is most likely to be responsible for it, too! Brilliant!

Very powerful. She probably escapes but I like the idea of Helen dying in the fire and ashes of a destroyed world. Much more fitting than her canon ending.

Yeek! I'd say 'Run!'... but it's Helen!

In the end, Helen was a hateful, manipulative, batshit!crazy woman and I can really find no sympathy for an ending such as this. Burn in hell, indeed. Very stark.

Some might say she deserves her fate... but she's a survivor.

Vivid and intriguing. Situations like these might have helped to have send Helen mentally round the twist...
