Title : Keep Calm and Tell Everyone to Sod Off

Word Count: 328
Summary : Nick Cutter is the most infuriating man Jenny has ever met.
There was a lot about Professor Nick Cutter that drove Jenny to distraction.
His stubborn insistence on always being right.
His equally abrasive ‘my way or the highway’ attitude that was hardly conducive to good team relations.
The way he still occasionally called her Claudia. A name she used to like, but not any more.
But then there were other the days when, unsolicited, he would bring her coffee and biscuits. Or occasionally even a cake.
And on the day she broke off her engagement, he said nothing about the lack of her ring, even though his sharp blue eyes missed little that went on around him, no mater how oblivious he might seem at times.
So on that particular day when he brought her coffee in a new mug bearing the slogan, Keep Calm and Tell Everyone to Sod Off, together with an entire packet of orange chocolate Hob Nobs, she was inclined to overlook his occasionally abrasive manner and refusal to tender his reports on time – or even at all.
Some things were more important than paperwork, and she really did like chocolate biscuits.
A week later, when he invited her out for a drink after work, Jenny accepted immediately. One dinner led to another, and Jenny began to see a different side to the often irascible academic.
She already knew Nick Cutter could be kind and thoughtful. She soon discovered that he could be charming and funny as well.
Over the next few weeks they discovered a shared taste in music and a mutual loathing of opera.
Two months later, on the anniversary of the day Jenny had accepted her former fiancé’s proposal, she found herself standing in the middle of a muddy, windswept field, watching Nick and his team shoo a particularly recalcitrant herd of herbivores too obscure even to have found their way into Connor’s database towards a rapidly-fading anomaly.
And, much to her own surprise, she’d never felt happier in her life.
