“I’ve not seen you all week…”
The look she gave him would have gone a very long way towards freezing hell, but as quickly as it had come, the coldness vanished.
His hopes shot up but a heartbeat later, Stephen realised she wasn’t looking at him, but over his shoulder.
“Dr Cutter, you wanted to see me?”
Fergal Murphy hovered in the doorway looking uncomfortable. He shot Stephen an apologetic glance that told him all he needed to know.
And explained why Helen hadn’t been answering his calls.
