Nick stared up at the thin mesh of interlocking plastic; his attempt to map the anomalies’ past and predict their future.
The construction was frozen in time, but also fluid and ever dynamic.
He allowed his thoughts to drift and found he was slipping easily into the sleep that had been denied him all too often recently.
“Coffee?” Claudia Brown asked quietly.
Nick opened his eyes, smiling.
The image of Claudia vanished from his waking dream.
He did his best to keep the smile, but he knew it didn’t reach his eyes.
Unfortunately, Jenny Lewis could see that as well.
