As the drum roll reached a crescendo and dry ice smoke filled the stage, Lester slumped down in his seat and muttered theatrically, “Someone put me out of my misery, please…”

Claudia glared at him and hissed, “Connor likes magic shows and it’s his birthday, so behave yourself, James.”

“Is the raptor part of the act?” Ryan enquired a moment after a burst of light bounced off the mirrors ringing the stage.

“Busman’s holiday, guys!” Connor said excitedly.

“If he says ‘best birthday ever’ can I fire him?” Lester enquired.

Claudia’s response was lost in the screams of the audience.
