“It was a bloody great big ostrich!”
“We don’t have ostriches in Fulham, sir.”
“There’s The Ostrich pub on the High Street, sarge…”
“There was a bloody great big ostrich.… A bloody great big FAT ostrich! And it tried to bite me!”
The young probationer duly noted the fact that the ostrich had been considered overweight. His sergeant looked unimpressed.
“And did the ostrich happen to break the windscreens on these three cars?
The man nodded vigorously.
The sergeant rolled his eyes and stared pointedly at the brick lying on the pavement as the drunk looked increasingly shifty. “Book him.”
