The mist hung over the lake like a grey shroud.
In the middle of the water, Abby could just make out the faint sparkle of the anomaly but that was rapidly being blotted out by the seeping fog.
A shiver run down her spine that owed nothing to the temperature and everything to a growing sense of unease.
An almost subliminal chattering noise had been growing in her head ever since she’d stepped out of the Hilux. It seemed to be coming from the approaching cloud. A word here, a thought there.
She drew in an uneasy breath. “It’s alive!”
