When his wife disappeared, it was hard for Nick, but it was difficult for Helen’s student’s too.
One seemed to have been hit particularly hard.
Helen had described Stephen as not the brightest of her students but one of the most passionate.
Nick began to wonder if there had been any double-meaning in her words.
“Tell me the truth, lad, did you sleep with her?”
The tears in Stephen’s eyes told him what he needed to know.
“I’m sorry, Nick. I really am sorry.”
Nick pulled Stephen into a hug and let him cry.
It had come as no surprise.
