“Uncontrolled explosions in the immediate vicinity of a top-secret government facility. What could possibly go wrong?”

“Lyle says if he’s in charge, the explosions will be entirely under control,” Claudia offered.

“Lieutenant Lyle lies like a cheap carpet.”

“But it’s Bonfire Night!” Connor said, bouncing happily in the doorway.

“You can have fireworks in the grounds, Mr Temple, if you can deliver me a thousand word essay explaining to my entire satisfaction why we still celebrate a failed attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament.”

Connor looked crestfallen.

Lester smiled benignly.

Claudia wisely decided to leave them to it.
