“Stop worrying. They’re herd animals. Trust me,” Abby said.
Lester smiled. “I do.”
The female elephant walked slowly down the ramp from the van. An Italian travelling circus had been shut down for cruelty and a friend had alerted Abby to Rosa’s plight.
The mammoth lightly touched her trunk with his, and Rosa moved closer to him.
The mammoth plucked some green leaves from a tree and held them to her.
Tentatively, she took them and chewed slowly.
“Can they interbreed?” Lester asked.
“Probably. And their first date seems to be going rather well.”
The mammoth had gained another friend.
