2017 in Review and Happy New Year to My LJ Friends

After an abysmally dire 2016, 2017 perked up a bit, although Brexit still cast a long shadow over our lives with the continuing uncertainty now hanging over the pet passport scheme which threatens the time we spend at our house in France. The UK seems more fucked up than ever and I despair for common decency here.

But it was a good year in fandom, with the excellent 52 Weeks of Primeval on primeval_denial, now to be followed by 12 Months of Primeval Denial, celebrating our own corner of fandom.

I set myself a writing target of 2,000 words a week and, unlike other goals in past years (such as writing every day), this one mostly stuck. There were some weeks towards the end of the year where I lost ground, but I made a big effort in December to catch up, and when I totally my words for the year, I was absolutely delighted. I managed 149,466 of Primeval words (a considerable improvement on 76,493 in 2016), 2,045 of Musketeers RPF, and 3,138 of original fic bringing my fiction total to 154,629! Yep, over the moon with that. I also wrote 75,685 of other words, mostly reviews and website articles, which is a slight increase on 2016.

My goals for 2018 on the writing front are to continue with the 2k a week, as that seems to have worked for me, but on top of that to really knuckle down to the editing on my original fic novels, aiming to get the first one sorted. I know what I need to do, it's now just a case of doing it!

2017 was a good year for travel, with the usual trips to France, one to Florence and one to Vienna, plus five trips away in our campervan and various Denial meet ups, including one to see Tim Haines' Dinosaurs in the Wild in Manchester.

Overall, a great year, but so stressful worrying about Brexit. Here's hoping the bloody thing never comes off, which with any luck is increasingly likely.

I was very chuffed. The 2k a week really worked for me for the majority of the time. It gave me the focus I'd lacked the year before. It's too easy for me to give up on daily targets as I lose them too quickly then say sod it.

It's all so bloody stupid. Hard to believe they're still rushing headlong over a cliff with no plan whatsoever but they all lack the guts to say no to it in case a few morons get stroppy.

I was talking to Jane this afternoon (we've just booked a London trip at the end of Feb)and she said she saw you in Liverpool recently. We had fond memories of our weekend in Belsize Park!

Yes, we met up when I went over for the Queen and Adam Lambert gig. We pootled around and went on the ferry. It was lovely to see her again!
