“Best of luck, Captain.” As Lester walked towards the lift, Becker heard him mutter, “You’ll need it.”
Becker decided sighing loudly was unprofessional. As was faking an emergency in the armoury that needed his urgent attention.
He was just going to have to beard the lioness in her den and hope he emerged intact.
Ten minutes later, armed with a very large skinny latte and three bars of chocolate (no orange, as that was just weird), he approached his girlfriend.
“Any chance of knocking off by midnight?” he ventured.
“No.”
Sod professionalism. Becker sighed loudly. “I’ll be in the armoury.”
