Her footprints stretched for a mile in the silver sand that ran around a huge bay, a blue sea on one side and a fringe of leafy ferns on the other.

Unless any other travellers had strayed through an anomaly, hers were the only footprints on a world that teemed with life, just none of it human, and none of it walking upright yet.

Helen stood still for a moment as she watched the waves gently lapping the shore.

She wondered what it would be like to walk here with Nick.

She wondered if she would ever see him again.
