“They’re not swedes, they’re turnips,” Blade commented, as Lorraine put the vegetables into her bag.
She pointed to the sign. “Swedes.”
He shook his head, looking amused. “Neeps and tatties. That’s short for tur-neeps.”
“Then why does the sign say swedes?”
He shrugged. “Beats me. You southerners are just weird.”
The stall holder looked like he wanted to object to the comment, but wisely thought better of joining the discussion.
“Didn’t you make turnips heads at Halloween?” Blade asked
“We always had pumpkins.”
He reached for a gnarled vegetable the size of a football. “This year we’re doing it properly.”
