“Mr Frodo! Mr Frodo!”

The joy in Sam’s eyes lifted Frodo’s spirits even without knowing what had brought his friend such happiness.

Sam flopped down on the grass and fanned his face with one suntanned hand.

“It’s growing!” he announced.

“Babies do that,” Frodo said, smiling.

“Not the baby. The new Party Tree! There are green shoots, Mr Frodo! Things are going to be all right again.” And with that, Sam promptly burst into tears.

Frodo laid his hand on Sam’s head and stroked his hair. “You used the Lady’s gift wisely, Sam. Things are going to be just fine.”
