“Let the Lord decide!” The preacher’s voice rang out around the village green as the crowd jostled and jeered a girl in their midst.
She was only sixteen. Once smiling and pretty, now bloody, bruised and filthy, injured by fists and thrown stones.
They were dragging her to the pond to decide her fate by ducking.
Emily watched, powerless to intervene.
When a gateway burst into life at the water’s edge, the crowd fell back, screaming.
Emily darted forward and grabbed the girl by the hand, dragging her towards the spinning shards of time.
Emily did not believe in witchcraft.
