“Sir James, it’s midnight.”
Lester looked up from his computer screen.
“Pots and kettles, Ms Wickes. Pots and kettles.”
“Someone has to stay here to look after you. Now turn that off, you look knackered.”
When Lorraine was as blunt as that, Lester knew better than to argue.
He took a bottle of his best single malt out of a drawer and two glasses.
“I think we both deserve a nightcap.”
“Only if you promise to go straight to bed afterwards.”
“I don’t deserve you, my dear.”
“If you didn’t, I wouldn’t stay.”
He smiled, too tired even to argue.
