Ryan turned over in his sleep, one hand grazing his companion’s shoulder.

Stephen Hart murmured in his sleep and reached out instinctively for his lover.

Hand found hand and fingers twined together.

It was a risk, both of them sleeping at once, but they had laid their defences well.

Later, much later, Stephen rolled onto his side, pulling the soldier’s arm round him.

Ryan grunted and snuggled closer.

The grey light of another day filled the clearing.

It wasn’t the broken light that might herald their salvation and a return to their own time, but it was enough. For now.
