Under different circumstances, Stephen might have laughed at a phrase like The door closed with a heavy clang, but right now he didn’t feel like laughing.

He actually felt like running away and crying for his mummy, not that the latter would ever have done him much good.

The predators circled.

Cutter’s eyes widened in horror, his lips forming a soundless scream.

Stephen backed up slowly.

This really hadn’t been one of his better ideas, but it had needed doing.

The best he could hope for was a quick death.

But he had a feeling today wasn’t his lucky day.
