“They’re nice lads,” Dot said, a touch defensively.
Her friend smirked. “Never said they weren’t. Just said they’re a tough looking bunch.”
Dot promptly leapt to the defence of her boys, as she thought of them now. “They’re harmless!” Mostly, she silently amended, adding, “They tidy up after themselves all the time.”
A lad in a hoodie shot past on a bike, snatching Marion’s bag out of her hand.
Seconds later, he was hauled onto the pavement and shaken very hard until he dropped the stolen bag.
“Thank you, Niall,” Dot said. She smiled at Marion, “All right, mostly harmless.”
